What happens at pre-assessment
- Full eye measurements and scans
- Comprehensive medical history review
- Lens selection discussion (for cataract patients)
- Consent discussion and signing
- Opportunity to ask all your questions
What to tell us
- All current medications, especially blood thinners (warfarin, apixaban, rivaroxaban, clopidogrel, aspirin)
- Any allergies to medications or materials
- Details of diabetes or other systemic conditions
- Any previous eye surgery or trauma
- If you feel particularly anxious or claustrophobic
What to bring
- Your appointment letter
- An up-to-date list of all your medications
- Your current glasses
- A responsible adult to drive you home
Morning of surgery checklist
- Arrange transport home (you cannot drive)
- Use pre-op drops if prescribed
- No eye makeup or face cream
- Eat and drink normally (unless instructed otherwise for general anaesthetic)
- Allow 2-3 hours total for your visit
