Post-Operative Care Instructions
Wound Care
- Cold Compresses: Apply cold compresses (ice pack wrapped in cloth) for 10-15 minutes every hour while awake for the first 48 hours to reduce swelling.
- Cleaning: Gently clean the eyelids with cooled boiled water and sterile gauze as instructed.
- Ointment: Apply prescribed antibiotic ointment to the suture line 3-4 times daily.
Activity Restrictions
- Sleeping: Sleep with your head elevated on 2-3 pillows for the first week to minimize swelling.
- No Bending/Lifting: Avoid bending or heavy lifting for 2 weeks to prevent bleeding.
- Makeup: Do not wear eye makeup for 2 weeks.
- Contact Lenses: Do not wear contact lenses for 2 weeks or until advised.
What to Expect
- Bruising/Swelling: Significant bruising and swelling are normal and will peak around day 2-3, resolving over 2 weeks.
- Tightness: Eyelids may feel tight or difficult to close fully initially.
- Tearing: Watery eyes are common during healing.
Suture Removal
- Sutures are typically removed 7-14 days after surgery (unless dissolvable).
