The Procedure
Removal of the pterygium growth and covering the area with a conjunctival graft using fibrin glue instead of stitches for comfort and faster healing.
Post-Operative Care Instructions
Comfort Management
- Sensation: Expect a scratchy, foreign-body sensation for the first few days.
- Lubrication: Use artificial tears frequently (every 1-2 hours) to soothe the eye.
- Pain Relief: Over-the-counter painkillers (Paracetamol/Ibuprofen) are usually sufficient.
Wound Care
- No Rubbing: Strictly avoid rubbing the eye, as this can dislodge the glued graft.
- Water: Avoid water in the eye for 1 week.
- Swimming: No swimming for 4 weeks.
Appearance
- The eye will be red and bloodshot; this is normal and will fade over weeks.
