YAG Capsulotomy

What is it?

A quick laser procedure to clear the cloudy capsule behind the lens implant (PCO), restoring clear vision.

Post-Procedure Instructions

Immediate Care

  • Vision: Vision may be blurry for a few hours due to dilating drops.
  • Glare: You will be sensitive to light; wear sunglasses.
  • Driving: Do not drive until your vision clears and pupil dilation wears off (usually 4-6 hours).

Recovery

  • Drops: Usually, anti-inflammatory drops are prescribed for 1 week.
  • Floaters: You may see new floaters; these typically settle over a few weeks.
  • Activity: You can return to normal activities immediately (work, reading, etc.).

Red Flags

  • A dark curtain or shadow in vision (sign of retinal detachment - rare).
  • Flashing lights.

Quick Checklist

  • Take drops as prescribed
  • Wear shield at night
  • No swimming (4 weeks)
  • No eye rubbing
